When walking around the city you can often see old cars -
Some of the buildings have seen better days, especially the old station - Estacion Central General Artigas. Opened in 1897, it closed in 2003. The statues at the front of the station include one of James Watt, the Scottish engineer, and George Stevenson, who built the Stockton-Darlington railway.
Palacio Salvo, located in Plaza Independencia - for a long time this used to be the tallest building in South America.
Palacio Legislativo - the Uruguayan Parliament building. Not quite the same as UK's Palace of Westminster - here in Montevideo you can walk right up to the doors and sit on the steps outside, and even stand in the President's parking space.
